A Special Scheme for the Youth Projects Qualified for the Omani Youth Tech Ideathon

After the great exposure received by the National Program for Skills Development since its launch, along with meeting the aspirations of the Omani youth; 300 participants returned to the competition by joining the " Oman Youth Startups"; a special scheme that was introduced to give the participants in the Omani Youth Tech Ideathon a second chance based on the directives of His Excellency Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al-Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; as the National Program for Skills Development presented a real opportunity for the participants to develop their ideas submitted in the Al Shabab Scheme’s Stage One; in order to proceed through the practical stages to get closer to the labor market, in light of the rapid technical developments that open the door to promising business opportunities.

The Ideas Support Stage is divided into 4 main stages:
Stage One: E-Learning March and April 2019

The Program provided the Omani youth with extensive knowledge about the basics of founding startup projects, entrepreneurship, and (4IR) technologies and applications, through the provision of intensive lessons –via the Internet –in partnership with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).

Stage Two: Extensive Workshops for the Startup Projects (Startup Bootcamps) 12 – 13 April 2019
  • Extensive workshops for more than 300 participants.
  • 50 instructors from within and outside the Sultanate.
  • Intensive workshops, sufficient guidelines, and comprehensive knowledge in building the business model, with its stages, requirements and bases, from the development of the idea until the product’s provision to the investors.
  • Investment opportunities for the Omani youth projects.

This Initiative was implemented in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) , and in partnership with "Arabnet", which is considered one of the most prominent Arab institutions interested in developing the digital society and stimulating the growth of the digital knowledge economy; in order for the Oman Youth Startups to become harmonious and parallel with its counterparts in the regional and international fields; thus achieving the maximum desired benefit and serving the role played by the Program in the knowledge field to develop the youth skills.

Stage Three: Project Implementation April and August 2019

This stage aims to guide the participants to refine and implement the ideas of their startup technology projects with a systematic vision and accurate studies, and that is through specific steps distributed on a timeline, and include the following:

  • Market study
  • Preparation of implementation plansذ
  • Formation of the work team.
  • Production of prototypes for the product or service.
  • Presentation of the product / service to the users
Stage Four: Project Presentation Mid-August 2019

After the effort and work to convert the youth’s ideas into technology based projects that benefit the Sultanate and the world, we are about to launch an e-platform that will celebrate all the startup technology based projects carried out by the participants, monitor the most accurate details of the project, and focus on attracting investors, researchers and entrepreneurs.
